Preparation and Handling Precautions
- Curing Required: Isengard must be cured before aquatic use to ensure optimal water quality.
- Basic Curing (for large display tanks):
- Soak in warm water for 24–48 hours due to size.
- Rinse thoroughly before placing in layout. - Intensive Curing (for aquariums with fish/inverts):
- Boil in sections if possible, or soak in hot water and replace daily until tannins reduce.
- Full water saturation may take several weeks depending on wood density. - Gradual Introduction: Especially important in aquariums-start with one structure and monitor.
Initial Buoyancy
- Large pieces may float initially. Pre-soak extensively or secure with WIO ScapeGlue Kits, stones, or substrate anchoring until fully waterlogged.
Natural Organic Material
- Expect strong variation in form-no two Ents are alike. Some upright, some sprawling-each one a character of its own.
Water Monitoring
- Tannin release is likely, especially from the root mass.
- Maintain kH ≥ 3 to buffer and stabilize pH.
- Test pH, kH, and gH weekly during the initial stages.
- Perform partial water changes as needed and use activated carbon to manage tint if desired.
- Biofilm or saprolegnia may appear early-this is natural and will fade with time or can be removed manually.
